Deze week kreeg ik een mooie brief van de Kerstman en de drie Wijze Koningen, heel hip in mijn mailbox. Ik wil hem hier plaatsen. Hij is in het Engels geschreven en na even overwogen te hebben om hem in het Nederlands te vertalen besloot ik dat toch niet te doen. In het Engels klinkt alles veel mooier, zachter en warmer.
Perhaps you don’t believe in us anymore, but we see you every holiday season running around, shopping, cooking and enjoying the season with your families. We know you don’t make a list for us anymore, but that doesn’t mean we don’t know what lies on your heart. Some of your wishes are material, but some of them are more like prayers. We still know what is important to you.
However, this holiday season we want to invite you to look closer under your tree. There are some packages there that you received a long time ago, and we didn’t give them to you. Sometimes you seem to forget that they are there, but if you look closely…
First of all is a great big red gift, the gift of life and health. Everyday when you and your loved ones open your eyes, you have been given this gift again.
Then there is a big green and blue package. Every day when you wake up, you have the gift of a beautiful world filled with miracles and the wonders of nature.
Next is a beautifully wrapped gift that comes in pink paper, the gift of family, friends and love. This is a special gift because you are given an opportunity each day to make your loved ones feel special and to receive love from them as well.
A box wrapped in blue paper lies next to the pink gift. It is the gift of faith. Even when the world seems like a dark place, this gift can always be counted on to help you look towards better, brighter times.
Last of all is a big silver box with many little silver boxes inside. This gift contains all the many blessings that we don’t even think about sometimes…food, clothes, house and medical care among others. We forget about this big box, but if it were ever taken away from us, we would immediately know that it was missing!
This year when you sit down to open your gifts together as a family, please don’t forget about the special gifts you have already been given. They are there under your tree, and you don’t have to go buy them. Someone much more important than us gave them to you; always celebrate them and please don’t take them for granted.
